Standout results for ACE Radio’s metro teams in GfK Survey 6

ACE Radio's Jon Vertigan

GfK Survey 6 has yielded some encouraging results for the team at ACE Radio.

Melbourne’s 3MP notched up its best share result of the year, whilst its sister station Magic 1278 held steady but grew its cume.

“Together, they’ve hit their best 55 to 64 numbers since ACE took over, which is our key demo,” ACE Radio’s Metro Content Director Jon Vertigan tells Radio Today.

Sydney’s 2UE had a welcome lift.

“It’s sitting on a three share now, with more people tuning in and sticking around longer as well,” says Vertigan, who also notes that cume is up by 41,000, while TSL (Time Spent Listening) has risen by more than 40 minutes a week.

“So it’s probably a big tick to the marketing and promo work that we’ve done in Sydney.”

4BH was a standout performer in Brisbane, dominating the over-40s demographic and still #1 in Breakfast among people 40+

Music research by MusicDatak has been a secret weapon for ACE.

“Quick shout out to Sam and Richard and the team from MusicDatak. We’ve been using that tool to help shape our playlists and the data’s starting to match those results,” says Vertigan.

Overall, Vertigan says ACE Radio is reasonably happy with the results in this latest book.

“Across the network, we’re reaching just over 900,000 listeners a week. It’s our second highest total in the year.”

Although any ratings growth is positive for 2UE, one can’t help but wonder if they’d be performing even better with a locally based breakfast show and/or possibly the resumption of a 7pm-midnight shift on weekdays, which until Dave Ferguson abruptly disappeared mid-year (was there any real announcement or explanation for that?) was one of the station’s stronger rating shifts…albeit still behind other stations.

Putting aside the inevitable further drop in ratings at Night, Breakfast saw the smallest ratings increase for 2UE so one wonders if they’ll continue with the interstate-based Cathy Jubb in 2026 or try someone closer to home who might be able to better connect with listeners and have a greater chance of picking up disgruntled 101.7 listeners who’ll be surfing around the dial for alternatives once COC’s brekky show is networked up here.

I could never workout why Tim Webster wasn’t offered the 2ue breakfast show.
A proven communicator, great voice and in touch with Sydney.

I always found his 2CH show very entertaining.

The current playlist still needs some work, the repetition of certain songs is disappointing.

Less 60’s more 80’s.
And let’s have real “ classic hits”.
Kung Foo Fighting, Pina Colada ??? Really??

@O 2ue: I’d personally be rather surprised if ACE Radio didn’t at some point during the past few years (perhaps even as far back as 2021 when they got Trevor Sinclair on board), attempt to approach Tim Webster and get him back on a station/frequency he previously had a strong association with.

However, one could rather understand him turning down any offers to (re)join 2UE after getting burnt pretty badly during the Talking Lifestyle/Macquarie Sports Radio eras…and at 2CH where he was pretty much their final remaining personality of note at the end!

O 2ue: What’s wrong with Kung Fu Fighting and Pina Colada. They are both classics IMO. More 80s ? I don’t think so. For us baby boomers more 60s and 70s. If you want more 80s try Gold or Smooth.
