“I’m in no mind to compromise”: Tony Tardio takes his case to the Federal Court

Reporter

Former long-serving 3AW newsreader Tony Tardio is taking his case to the Federal Court after Fair Work negotiations failed to reach a resolution yesterday.

Tardio has told the Herald Sun (subscription required) he will pursue what he deserves, claiming his employment was terminated while he was on sick leave after 43 years of service.

The 66-year-old told the publication “I was reasonable, I was prepared to be fair and we were a long way away.”

“I’m not like Kyle (Sandilands) seeking an unreasonable amount. I’m determined to be treated with some respect — and if they don’t I’ll demand it.”

“I’m in no mind to compromise at all whatsoever so we’ll see where it goes and it gives me an opportunity to take it all the way.”

Tardio accused management at Nine Radio (now Tapt Media) of being ageist.

3AW has declined to comment.

In January this year, Tardio opened up to Radio Today about his absence from the airwaves, saying he was touched and humbled by the avalanche of support he’d received from loyal listeners.

If the station is ageist then why is Denis Walter still there, maybe talent besides just reading news for a few mins every hour is necessary
