Xtra Insights Survey 1 for Townsville proves a Hit for SCA teams
There’s been a change in the leaderboard in the latest Xtra Insights Survey for Townsville, with Hit 103.1 now the station most listened to (+3.1% to 22.6), leapfrogging sister station Triple M Townsville (-2.1% to 19.3).
Hit is also the new leader in Breakfast, with Bronte & Lakey – who are networked from the Gold Coast – up 3.7% to 23.8. Triple M Townsville’s Cliffo & Kate now sit second (-2.9% to 19.3), with both SCA brekky teams still well clear of the pack.
It was a solid book for Star 106.3 brekky duo Archie & Donny (+1.9 to 13.9), who sit third ahead of Power 100 (+0.6 to 13.8)
Hit enjoyed significant gains across every shift, as did the team at Star.

SCA Head of Regional Content Blair Woodcock said “Townsville showed up in force today, reinforcing SCA’s duopoly dominance, with Hit103.1 and Triple M Townsville claiming the #1 and #2 stations, and owning the all-important 25-54 ‘Audience That Matters’ demographic as a network.”

“It’s been a great result today for Hit 103.1 with the station leading the charge thanks to Bronte & Lakey (Bronte Langbroek and Danny Lakey) in Breakfast, who continue to deliver a fun and entertaining content every morning, supported by the community driven efforts of the Hit Squad, and a great final survey for Carley Whittington’s hyper-local workdays – thank you to Carley on her contributions as she embarks on her next adventure, Fresh from their Queensland trip, Carrie & Tommy (Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little) have once again proven their universal appeal, taking the #1 spot in Drive for both P10+ (23.2%) and P25-54 (27%).”
“Not to be outdone, Triple M’s Townsville team have also set the bar high, not only for their impressive ratings in this book, but also for their impact in the community. The station raised more than $200,000 for Brighter Lives and the Townsville Hospital Foundation during their ‘Brighter Day’ radiothon, led by Cliffo & Kate (Guy Clifton and Kate Jeboult) and CK (Cliff Kern). Triple M also holds the largest audience in market, with 77,400 loyal listeners tuning in each week.”
“In one of Australia’s most competitive regional markets, SCA has flexed its dominance, reaching 31% more listeners than the nearest commercial network. These results make it clear that nobody captures the attention of Townsville quite like Hit and Triple M.”
ARN’s Power 100 is Townsville’s #1 station for men 18-54.
Star 106.3 is Townsville’s #2 Station all people 18-54. As well as Archie and Donny’s rise in Breakfast, Mornings with Danni was up 3.3% to 13.7 and Afternoons with Kaley rose 2.5% to 14.9%

ARN Content Director – Regional Queensland Stu Tolan said “I’ve never been prouder of our Townsville team. They’ve turned a year of change into a launchpad for success. By connecting with our local community, creating standout content, and bringing genuine passion to everything we do, we’ve made real progress and had a lot of fun along the way. Bring on 2026.”

I’m so proud of the team as they continue to deliver real results for our clients with our mix of on air, on location and online from our team based right here in Townsville.”

How is a non-local show number 1 and beating heritage/local Triple M?
Tough survey for Star too after doing so much in the community this year. They might need that afternoon person on breakfast when Archie leaves with that number…
@local losing here,
That “afternoon person” isn’t local either! Kaley is from mackay. She does afternoons on the star network.so it’s hard to see her giving up on that gig since it’s a big role!
What is happening with ABC North Queensland?
Unsurprisingly the former market leader, the station formerly known as 4TO is declining at breakfast without Pricey.
Leaving it to PR people to paper over the cracks once again in another rubbery telephone poll survey.
Bennie Gee, it’s a phone poll, recall survey, eg which shift and station did you listen to most?
Because the ABC doesn’t waste our taxpayer money on frivolous high profile marketing to improve their recall in the market (they waste it on plenty other things such as laughable staff titles and not being a model litigant in minor workplace dismissal matters), most of the few hundred telephoned forget the ABC is there when phoned by the second tier research company executing a methodology developed by the commercial lobby.
ABC 630 in Townsville recently had its transmitter mast replaced, it’s now one of the tallest guyed structures in Australia, so the signal is strong.
