RIP Ted Ryan

Valentine ‘Ted’ Ryan has died after a long period of illness. A beloved member of the Victorian Racing media team, Ted had four decades experience as a journalist and presenter and had called more than 15 Melbourne Cups for radio and TV.

On radio, Ted was a long time part of Geelong Broadcasters‘ Around the Grounds team on 3GL.

He was also heard across the airwaves of Melbourne sports radio stations 3UZ/Sport 927.

His crisp voice also saw him in high demand for charity auctions, and as the welcoming voice greeting you at race venues and in the press room.

Matt Hill, the Victorian Racing Media Association President said “Ted Ryan was a passionate and well-loved figure in Racing media. He was a writer, race caller, presenter and punter who was happy to help anybody who entered his orbit. On behalf of the VRMA I extend my deepest sympathies to his friends and family.”
