Triple M Perth launches inaugural Kick Over the Swan

92.9 Triple M launched the inaugural Kick Over the Swan in spectacular fashion over the weekend.

10 contestants from local Perth footy clubs gathered on the verge of the Swan River, in the hope of booting a Sherrin football the furthest distance to win $10,000.

Morning announcer Angie Ayers hosted a live broadcast, whilst breakfast hosts Xavier Ellis and Michelle Anderson watched contestants drop punt, torpedo, banana kick – or in some cases dribble – the footy across the iconic landmark.

Ellis says “I’ve kicked a few belters in my time playing AFL, but watching everyone boot the footy over the Swan River was truly awesome to watch!”

There were also a few familiar faces that showed up to have a kick in the Celebrity Round, including Channel 7’s Ryan Daniels, former West Coast Eagles player Andrew Embley, WAFL player Hamish Brayshaw and Triple M’s Weekend Huddle presenter Dani Shuey.

The winner was James King, who kicked the ball a whopping 52 metres, scoring himself $5,000 and $5,000 for his local Quinns Districts Football Club.

James says “I’m stoked! I’m going to use the money to fix up the club’s kitchen, buy some new teles … and hopefully some beer taps as well!”

92.9 Triple M Content Director Tim Arnold says “We are so proud to have launched an event that is uniquely Western Australian, supports the community and something Triple M hopes can become an annual footy tradition!”

The 10 contestants were:

  • Zane Illich – Manning Rippers
  • Tyson Rowling – Scarborough
  • Rob Goad – Sorrento Duncraig
  • Danielle Fagents – Carlisle Victoria Park
  • James King – Quinns District
  • Tim Lees – Mandurah
  • Liam Bradford – Roleystone
  • Louise Knitter – Kelmscott Women’s
  • Shaun Oates – Ballajura

92.9 Triple M’s Kick over the Swan will return in 2025.
