Tackling his health head-on: Kyle Sandilands’ 100kg mission
Last month, Kyle Sandilands made a raw on-air admission. His recent health diagnosis had left him feeling depressed, unhealthy, and – in his own words – “too fat.”
In a moment of self-deprecating humour during a period of hopelessness, Kyle floated an idea: Kyle’s Big Fatso Club – a tongue-in-cheeky initiative where “fat pigs” (his words, of course) could join him on a slow but steady march towards better health.
Enter ‘Intern’ Pete Deppeler, who took the concept and turned it into a fully-fledged scheme to help Kyle and KIIS listeners with that extra push, setting realistic goals, making healthier choices and working towards sustainable results.
The goal isn’t about crash dieting or radical transformations. Instead, Kyle’s Big Fatso Club is all about achievable lifestyle changes, making the weight-loss journey fit into everyday life with the help of science, fitness, nutrition and plenty of Kyle-style humour.
The scheme has also had the tick of approval from some of Australia’s best-known fitness and wellness gurus jumping on board, including:
- Jeff Fenech – Designing a simple, low-impact workout plan including 20-minute walks and gentle abdominal exercise.
- Michelle Bridges – Rolling out weekly meal plans featuring dishes such as beef and broccolini stir fry and a healthier take on the classic cheeseburger.
- Manu Feildel – Crafting delicious breakfast ideas including a spinach and egg white omelette and a natural yoghurt with fresh fruits and nuts.
- Dr KIIS (Dr Sam Hay) – Joining The Kyle & Jackie O Show each Thursday morning, taking calls from club members to help navigate challenges and continuing motivation for results.
On launch day, Wednesday August 6, Kyle committed fully to the challenge and stepped onto the scales live on-air. The result? 139.7kg. With a goal of 100kg, Kyle set his sights on losing almost 40kg.
This morning, he returned to the scales, one week after making key changes – swapping chicken chips, Cadbury Twirls and soft drinks for coconut water, fruit and yoghurt – and incorporating treadmill walks with wife Tegan and son Otto by his side.
While admitting he hadn’t managed a daily walk, Kyle was thrilled to learn he had lost 2.4kg in his first week, when his first live weigh in on the scales returned a reading of 137.3kg.
“I said even if I’d not lost anything, I was committed to keep going,” said Kyle. “But now, I’m feeling optimistic – I can already see changes.”
Kyle’s next weigh-in is set for 9.00am, Wednesday August 20, live on The KIIS Network’s Kyle & Jackie O Show.
How can you write this crap Sarah. Very sad
Do you have any shame ?
Getting tired of reading people carrying on about Sarah’s integrity in the comments at any mention of Kyle Sandilands. I’m no fan of Kyle, but his show is a leading show in a leading market of this industry, and this site features articles about this industry.
If you don’t want to know what’s happening in the leading shows in the leading market in the industry, you may be at the wrong site.
Also, “do you have no shame”??? That’s a bit over the top, even for this late 40s drama queen .
Love always,
Bennie Gee xx
I’m with Bennie! What’s the difference between this and covering some regional show’s stunts? At least this is positive for everyone.
@Dex, this is not the way to treat women…..your comments are disrespectful….”real men accept and respect”
It’s actually refreshing to see something focused on realistic, sustainable changes instead of extreme transformations. The mix of humor and honesty makes it more relatable, especially for people who feel stuck or overwhelmed. At the end of the day, small consistent habits really do make the biggest difference.
