Smiles all ’round as Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa meet their quokka namesakes
Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa have finally come face to face with their animal namesakes in a truly memorable moment at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo.
As part of a promotion for Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie Breakfast show, Nova took 400 students from King Park Public School in Wakeley on an excursion to the zoo yesterday.

A highlight of the day was Fitzy and Wippa meeting the quokkas which share their names, and as you can see by the photo, it was smiles all ’round.
The male and female quokka also happen to a be a couple – and recently welcomed a baby quokka to the family!
In April this year, Fitzy and Wippa were given the ultimate surprise, with their names bestowed upon two of the zoo’s brand-new baby quokkas.
Usually only found on WA’s Rottnest Island, the impossibly cute native Australian critters have become a popular presence on social media, thanks to selfies with the stars.
For the kids, yesterday’s event was more of a total takeover than an excursion – with the zoo only open to the Nova team, the students and the 60 teachers who accompanied them.
The day at the zoo formed part of the students’ educational program.
