Singles Report: Peking Duk, Jonas Blue & Kygo spoil commercial radio
It doesn’t get more convincing than this at radio – Charlie Puth completely overwhelmed commercial last week with new single ‘How Long’. The track gained additions across nearly all major stations. Not only was Puth added to the entire Hit Regional Network, ‘How Long’ was the only track picked up on full rotation by Ash London LIVE.
Adds continued to trickle in for Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’, which makes the chart for a second time in two weeks, DMA’S ‘Dawning’, and Vera Blue’s ‘Regular Touch’. However, the biggest surprise came from independent artist Baker Boy whose second single ‘Marryuna’ ft. Yirrmal got the attention of triple j and FBi Radio, securing #3 on the chart.
The global music markets are peppered with Post Malone. You’ll find his smash ‘rockstar’ ft. 21 Savage at the top of the Australian, German and Swedish Spotify charts, as well as BBC Radio 1 and SoundCloud charts. Locally, it’s week three at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for the rapper.
Radio is once again spoilt for choice with new singles this week. Electronic duo Peking Duk are more than capable of compelling radio for spins. That will likely be the case with new single ‘Let You Down’ ft. Icona Pop, an electrifying number with razor-like synths and an emotional lyrical core.
Following on from multi-Platinum single ‘Mama’, Jonas Blue returns to the fray with ‘We Could Go Back’ ft. Moelogo, another single that will surely make an impact on commercial this week. Kygo’s ‘Stargazing’ ft. Justin Jesso gets an official service to radio this week, as does a new release by The Vamps who team up with Maggie Lindemann on ‘Personal’. Esoterik, one-third of Aussie hip hop group Bliss N Eso, also launches brand new single ‘Be Like You’ ft. James Crooks.
Elsewhere, P!NK continues her fairytale run on the Hot 100 with ‘What About Us’. It gained 914 total spins across the country this week. That’s thanks to unwavering support from both KIIS stations.
