Is Amy the frontrunner for permanent gig on KIIS Sydney Breakfast?

Amy Gerard is back again this morning for yet another guest co-hosting stint on KIIS Sydney Breakfast, with ARN having given its strongest indication yet that the permanent gig could end up being hers.

If the radio industry were running a book on it, Gerard must surely now be favourite.

Last week, post GfK Survey 4 – and without being prompted – metro content boss Dave Cameron (pictured above) talked up Gerard’s suitability for the role, telling Radio Today:

“She’s done an awesome job. She’s a real natural.”

“She’s obviously had some time on weekend Breakfast in Sydney but (we’re) hearing her really start to stretch her wings and grow in that space.”

The mum-of-three describes herself as a ‘professional oversharer,’ and Cameron concurs.

“It’s actually really compelling … it’s been really great to listen to Amy on the show.”

Gerard is already well acquainted with the KIIS audience, through the weekend Breakfast show she co-hosts with Chris Page.

Last month she officially became the longest-serving guest co-host to date on KIIS Breakfast in Sydney and Melbourne, spending an entire month on-air alongside Mike Etheridge and Brooklyn Ross.

And even though ARN says it hasn’t yet settled on a permanent co-host for the slot, it’s Gerard who is featured alongside Ross and Etheridge in the show blurb on the KIIS website.

She returns today following Melissa Leong’s week-long stint in the guest co-host chair.

ARN hasn’t yet specified how long Gerard will spend in the job this time around.

Bianca Dye’s recent guest-hosting turn generated overwhelmingly positive feedback from listeners and network insiders alike, who called for her to be installed as the permanent co-host.

That may well happen.

But with ARN in no hurry to make an announcement about its plans for KIIS Breakfast in Sydney – let alone Melbourne – one can only wonder how just many of the current brekky show wheels are also being given a road test.

Are Mike E and Brooklyn also guest hosting? When you have just lost/fired/kissed goodbye the most successful Breakfast show of the last few decades you can throw the magnets around the whiteboard as much as you like. There are no rules. There’s no expectation of rating success. And with that pressure off the table, the powerbrokers and the talent can try a few things as well.

What’s the worst that can happen?

Have a look at the 2DayFM Breakfast show since Kyle & Jackie O left the building. Not good reading.        

Getting it wrong is easy.

Getting it right most certainly isn’t.

But getting it right the first time is bloody near impossible.
