ARN farewells The Long Weekend as Eddie McGuire launches new sports show

Reporter

As widely predicted, today marks the final episode of ARN’s short-lived Friday afternoon show The Long Weekend.

The show started out with Karl Stefanovic and Eddie McGuire as co-hosts, but Stefanovic departed just a couple of weeks into the new program, amid fallout over his controversial podcast, which also saw him part ways with Channel Nine.

ARN has confirmed that McGuire will continue on the GOLD Network with a new twice-weekly program, GOLD SPORT with Eddie McGuire, launching on Friday 24 July.

Airing every Friday and Monday from 6pm, the new show will feature McGuire’s take on the biggest stories, personalities and moments in sport.

On today’s show, McGuire said “A little bit of news for you. This will be the last edition of The Long Weekend as we know it and have grown to love over the last five weeks.”

“Clearly there has been some lineup changes on this show. For my part though, I am delighted to announce the establishment of GOLD Sport. Twice a week, Fridays and Mondays, I will bring you the biggest names in news, and insights from the world of big-time sport.”

The decision is consistent with what Dave Cameron told Steve Ahern earlier this week on survey day:

“Yeah, we’re working our way through that… There’ll probably be some announcements sooner rather than later in regards to any kind of change we might make.”

“The Long Weekend is no longer the same show ARN started out with four weeks ago.”
