RIP Graeme Gilbert
Graeme Gilbert, the veteran presenter of Talk Tonight on 2SM and across the Super Radio Network, has died aged 76.
The network shared:
“Graeme was deeply loved by his audience across the Super Radio Network, and that affection was mutual. He genuinely adored his listeners and had a lifelong passion for the radio industry. He truly loved what he did behind the microphone.
He was heard across every station in the Super Radio Network, bringing his talk program to audiences right across Australia. Through our Newcastle station, 2HD, Graeme consistently delivered outstanding survey results—a reflection not only of his talent, but of the genuine connection and trust he built with listeners over many years.”
Graeme first ‘saw’ radio at the Newcastle Show, while still a schoolboy. Over the years he won a B&T Award (for Best News Presenter), a Raward (for Best Current Affairs Commentator) and ran for the Federal seat of Franklin, in Tasmania, in the 1993 elections.
He said of his on air role: “I love it – it’s never a chore turning up for this job!”
Part of Graeme’s legacy will be a connection to India. Most everybody who has worked in Australian radio, especially talk radio, will know and have been shared this story.
Graeme left the SRN in 2023 and had been in care since last October. Radioinfo will update with funeral details when they are known.
