Ryan Jon permanently joins KIIS 101.1 to host Workdays

Former Editor & Content Director

Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne has a new Workday host, with Ryan Jon officially joining the lineup from January 11 next year.

Jon is currently hosting the station’s Summer Breakfast program with Lauren Phillips while the Jase & PJ show is on break.

Jon has previously worked for Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) in roles across the Hit Network, including at 104.7 in Canberra alongside Tanya Hannessy, Perth’s Hit 92.9 (now Triple M) as part of the Heidi, Xavier & Ryan program, and in Sydney he co-hosted Hit / 2DayFM’s national Weekend Breakfast.

He left that role mid last year, and subsequently landed a hosting gig at Australian streaming service, Ticker.

Jon said after years of travelling and working on radio across the country, it was wonderful to be back home in Melbourne doing a job he loves.

“I’ve really enjoyed being here at KIIS doing Summer Breakfast, so to be asked to join the on-air team and continue the fun into 2021 is really a dream come true,” he said.

ARN’s chief content officer, Duncan Campbell, said Jon’s appointment was another example of ARN’s commitment to investing in the best talent to deliver live and local audio.

“Ryan is an experienced announcer who brings his passion, energy and enthusiasm to everything he does, which is why he’s going to be a great addition to KIIS 101.1,” he added.

He will be on Melbourne’s KIIS 101.1 weekdays from 9am – 3pm, starting on January 11.

The slot is currently hosted by Mason Tucker. ARN has been approached for confirmation about Tucker’s position, however Jon said on-air this morning there was a “vacancy” which he filled.

With KIIS workdays in the 3s and 4s they had to change something. Looks like they’re going with personality and content to fix the problems. Will be interesting to see if it works.

Ryan will be fantastic but at the same time it’s a shame to see Mason get the flick.

Something tells me Ryan thinks he’s going to have creative freedom on this slot. When is someone hunna tell him….

KIIS workday NEEDS discipline and punchy local music passion – he’s used to a content show so really can’t imagine him changing his ways. Very weird choice.

Brilliant young talent to move out. Shame not to give the younger ones a go. Heard the breakfast show and it’s very ordinary.

Mason has spark and great enthusiasm.
Shame to be replaced by dead wood.

This the same Ryan Jon who was complaining radio was a dead medium with no future only months ago?

Can’t believe Mason has been given the sack. KIIS have lost me as a listener.
