Potential SEN role for Tom Morris

A possible radio gig awaits former Fox Footy reporter Tom Morris.

SEN boss Craig Hutchison has confirmed he is considering employing Morris, saying he deserves a second chance.

Speaking on The Sounding Board Podcast, Hutchison said: “We’re having a really good look at it.”

Morris was given his marching orders last year, over controversial leaked comments about a Fox colleague, the scandal making headlines in the opening week of last year’s AFL season.

Now, SEN is looking at teaming Morris with former Fox colleague Sarah Olle for a Sunday morning AFL show.

Hutchison describes Morris as “a fine person who made a mistake.”

“He deserves a second chance at the craft and someone needs to give it to him.”

Hutchison says he’s a big believer in second chances.

“I’ve had a million of them. I’ve been sacked, suspended, sued. I made a horrible error at (Channel) Seven where I was given a second opportunity.”

“As a leader of our business in the early days I was a bit too hard on people that made blues.”

Hutchison says he’s trying to be more empathetic as he gets older, and that he’s aware that Morris has recently completed numerous education programs.

“What he has done is an enormous amount of work on himself. Others will judge whether that was needed, how much of it – too much, too little – everyone’s going to have an opinion but I’m privy to the way he’s gone about the last year and the way he has worked on himself.”

“And if you want to take a purely journalistic view of the role, he is very very good at what he does.”
