One last ride. Special O.B to farewell 2 RSN favourites

Loyal RSN 927 listeners have turned out in force to farewell two of their favourite hosts as the sun sets on a remarkable radio era.

From next week, long-running shows Breakfast with Harf – hosted by Daniel Harford – and Michael Felgate’s Racing Pulse will disappear from the airwaves, as Craig Hutchison’s Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) assumes ownership of the iconic racing station.

After 47 years in the industry, respected RSN Program Director Andrew Bensley – who’s been in radio his entire working life – also departs the station following the SEN acquisition.

This morning, staff and listeners alike reminisced about the station which opened up doors and career opportunities for those who wanted to talk racing, as an outside broadcast was held at Bells Hotel in South Melbourne.

Among those to pop by was Sue from Mernda (pictured above with Harf), who’s been listening to the station since the 3UZ days back in the 70s when Bert Newton was on air, and still texts RSN most mornings.

Prominent identities at this morning’s O.B included Matt Hill, Shawn Cosgrove, Mick McGuane and Damien Oliver.

Sharing classic sporting moments from years gone by, legendary racecaller Bryan Martin summed up the feeling in the room when he said “They were great memories of radio when it was king.”
