NZ radio presenter makes tearful apology

Staff Writer

Yesterday, NZ radio/TV host Rachel Smalley was busted calling New Zealand women "heifers" and "a bunch of lardos" after discussing a contraceptive pill that was apparently less effective in women who weighed more than 70kg when the average weight of NZ women is 72kg.

Today she has made a tearful on-air apology. Here's the audio from ninemsn :-

TRN GM of Talk, Dallas Gurney, has released this statement regarding the incident.

To our listeners;

I’d like to apologise for some comments Rachel Smalley made on-air this morning.

We don’t condone them. They shouldn’t have gone to air, it was a mistake and Rachel has apologised.

She isn’t the first person in the world to speak before thinking. She is extremely apologetic and totally embarrassed.

On behalf of the station, I would like to say sorry to our listeners. You rightly expect more from us.

Thank you, as always, for listening.
