Moving and motivated: ACE Radio Network steps up to the challenge

Reporter

It was during the COVID years that an idea was spawned for a radio team challenge that an entire network could embrace.

It was a way to get people moving, motivated and energised.

It proved such a success, that the ACE Radio Network’s September Step Challenge has continued annually ever since.

Now, the results for the 2025 Challenge are in, and Owen GodenziGeneral Manager of STAR FM 92.1 and EDGE FM 102.1 in Victoria’s North East – says they are the most remarkable yet.

Godenzi – who is also the ACE Radio Network’s Head of Health and Wellbeing – says it was a true TEAM effort – in every sense of the word:

“As a NETWORK, we trekked over 12,470 kilometres, beating our 2024, 2023 and 2022 totals. So close to making it the whole way around our country!”

The overall winner was the ACE Radio team from Hamilton, averaging 114ks per team member for the month.

Special mention goes to the ACE team at Horsham for clocking up the most ks, including Heidi Higginson, who fell just short of 400ks.

Heidi put in some huge early morning treks, usually with an entourage of animals.

While ACE Radio’s Metro, Head Office & ACE Digital and Swan Hill crews all more than doubled their efforts from last year.

Overall, it was an amazing effort from everyone who participated,” says Godenzi.

Over the course of the month – 2UE Breakfast host Cathy Jubb walked 5 to 6ks every day, without fail.

Even Regan Malseed from Hamilton’s 3HA – who has never done anything like this before – didn’t miss a single day.

Daily walks became such a fitness game changer for Regan, she’s decided to continue doing them.

Another shout out goes to Wayne Jarvis from Traralgon’s TRFM who, despite recovering from injury, managed to smash his target.

Staff members will receive an ACE Steps Hoodie for their outstanding contribution.
