Lynne McGranger reveals on the Hit Network’s Dan & Christie how she missed her own farewell
This morning on The Hit Network’s Dan & Christie Breakfast show, Gold Logie winner Lynne McGranger revealed she didn’t watch her emotional Home and Away farewell episode last night … because she was on a flight to Launceston.
The departing actress, who played Irene Roberts for 33 years, told co-host and former Home and Away star Christie Hayes that while the cast and crew previewed the episode weeks ago, she missed the TV broadcast live on-air.
Lynne said the flight had no wi-fi on-board but explained she had had a “teary” viewing of the episode with Seven Network Chairman Kerry Stokes a few weeks back.
Lynne also discussed her decision to exit the show and why she chose the Alzheimer’s storyline to respectfully depart the program and pay homage to those who suffer from the disease.
When asked by Christie whether she would consider a future career in radio, Lynne was adamant she would need to be paid ‘Trump’ money to consider working Breakfast radio hours, adding there are no gaps in her busy schedule.

“I hate the sound of my own voice! As you know, Christie, I can talk under wet concrete. I would enjoy it but the early mornings don’t entice me anymore. Breakfast radio, dear God in Heaven, they would have to throw Trump-worthy billions at me!”
“I know it’s hard work. I know a lot of people, like yourself, in radio. You have to do your research, sit down and plan your shows and programs. But there are no gaps in my future at the moment because I’m doing so much! Maybe one day I will consider it.”
Listen to Dan & Christie across Tasmania and Regional Victoria on the Hit Network from 6-9am weekdays, also on LiSTNR.
