Loz O’Callaghan urges young women to chase the radio dream

Keen to work in radio? Then get switched on to your girl power.

That’s the message from Laura ‘Loz’ O’Callaghan to young women thinking about a career in the industry.

The 32 year old – who’s one third of the top rating Roo, Ditts & Loz brekky show on Triple M Adelaide – believes it’s time to dial things up and get more women on air.

In an interview with The Advertiser, O’Callaghan urges young women to have a crack.

“I’d love to encourage any young woman who has any aspirations in pursuing radio to do so with gusto,” she says.

“It was the scariest but unequivocally the best decision I’ve ever made.”

“Women have so much to offer this industry, and there just aren’t enough of us on air. So don’t be intimidated, girl – chase the dream.”

O’Callaghan also admits to getting a bad case of ‘impostor syndrome’ when she’s at media events.

She says “I’ll look around and see an army of iconic Adelaide media personalities and just think to myself ‘What the bloody hell is Loz the sausage from Paracombe doing here?’”

There’s literally…So many women in radio what is she talking about? Every metro market has a women co host. In fact… Men are being over looked.

Another fantastic success story from Fresh FM. Laura has done her time on community radio and now contributing to a number one breakfast show. Great story.
