Lauren Phillips announces engagement

KIIS 101.1’s Jase & Lauren co-host Lauren announced on air this morning that she is getting married to her long-term partner Paul O’Brien.

Lauren shared her proposal story with listeners detailing how it all went down during a recent holiday in Mykonos. 

“It was the best holiday, and I did not expect it at all. Maybe I should’ve expected it, but he totally put me off the scent,” Lauren said. 

“We had gone out for this big, beautiful lunch. Apparently, he planned to do it the next day. We were going to have a big party by the pool at the house we rented. We were all dancing around the pool, and he just looked at one of his friends and said, ‘This is it.’”

“The sun’s setting, it’s a beautiful moment and all our friends are happy. So, my worst nightmare came true, he proposed in front of all our friends.”

The normally quiet Paul made a speech to the group during the Mykonos sunset before Lauren realised what was happening. 

With many friends beginning to cry, Lauren realised something was up. 

“I had no idea, and then next minute, he was down on one knee. I think I thought he was joking. It was an out-of-body experience,” Lauren said. 

“I don’t think I even looked at the ring. I just hugged him and cried and then we stood up and we all celebrated.”

“Everyone said, ‘you didn’t say yes,’ and I’m like ‘of course it is a yes!’ We then called my family who were at home at the time. He asked my dad. He is a gentleman.”

“He is an incredible man, and I am the best version of me when I’m around him. I’m so grateful for him. We’ve been through a lot in a short amount of time. I feel very lucky. We’re really happy.”
