Journey through grief to joy: Robin Bailey announces her most personal project yet

Reporter

It’s taken Robin Bailey years to find the courage to tell her story, and that of her three sons.

But, after much reflection and revisiting some of life’s hardest moments, yesterday, Robin’s debut memoir finally went live for pre-order.

Sharing her excitement on-air with KIIS 97.3 Breakfast co-hosts Kip Wightman and Corey Oates, Robin said of the book:

“It’s about our journey through grief and finding joy again. And the most extraordinary part is that each of my boys has written their own chapter.”

Listeners were the first to see the book cover — a black-and-white family photo of Robin and her three sons, contrasted by pink lettering and the title Flamingos Aren’t Born Pink: My Family’s Story of Healing, Hope and Living Life in Colour.

Joining the show was Robin’s eldest son Finn, who said “I’m proud of you, mum. Because it was a lot to write.”

Explaining the meaning behind the book’s title, Robin said on Instagram:

“Flamingos aren’t born pink! They grow into their fabulousness, and I feel that’s what we all did despite the trauma of suicide and death.”

“I hope by sharing our story; in all its raw and brutal honesty, I can help others to see that no matter what happens, you won’t just survive, you can thrive.”

Flamingos Aren’t Born Pink by Robin Bailey is due for release on March 31st, 2026 and is now available for pre-order here.
