Disrupt Radio’s newest producer offers glimpse into upcoming station

Another recruit has joined the enigmatic Disrupt Radio in South Melbourne.

Former Wangaratta 3NE/Edge FM Audio Journalist Mike Humphrey is joining the likes of Michelle Guthrie and Libbi Gorr in what will soon be Melbourne’s newest digital station.

Speaking to Radio Today about the recent move, Mike revealed that he will produce comedian and former ABC presenter Libbi Gorr’s Breakfast show.

When asked about the new role, Mike said they plan on doing things differently and “It’s a really exciting opportunity.”

“There’s going to be a lot of scope to be creative and very humorous,” Mike said.

“The content … it’s not rigid, it’s not old school business, it’s very much in keeping with the modern world, and it’s very positive.”

“We want it to actually have things of interest that people are going to talk about rather than just your run of the mill, everybody’s laughing at nothing and talking about nothing.”

According to company founder Benjamin Roberts, science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship will be the station’s focus, but it won’t be a business and money channel.

“It isn’t as much business-centred but more mindset-centred,” Mike said.

“How can people get a leg up in a very complex ever-changing modern world? So you know, we might have sociologists on, we might have psychologists on, we might have wellness experts on, we might have scientists that specialise in green energy or new tech, precious metals.”

“There’s also going to be a comedic side to the project. It’s not all going to be serious.”

“Libbi Gorr herself is a famous satirist, so we want people to be waking up with us in a positive light, having a laugh, but also getting something out of it, something they can chat about to their colleagues throughout the day.”

Disrupt Radio’s launch is expected towards the end of the year and will stream across Australia via the internet and broadcast digitally in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
