Community broadcasters release Roadmap 2033

Roadmap 2033, a ten-year plan for community broadcasters to achieve greater impact in every Australian community, was released today at a launch event held in Blacktown with the document presented to the Hon Michelle Rowland MP, Minister for Communications.

The Roadmap outlines a shared vision for the future where: “Community broadcasting is at the heart of every community – where informed, connected communities are strengthened by trusted, creative, independent media.”

At the launch event, held at 2SWR’s new studios, Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) CEO Jo Curtin said:

“It was wonderful to see community broadcasters from diverse communities all over Australia coming together to develop our future plan.

It was clear our broadcasters care deeply about the positive impact they have in their communities, and of the increasingly important role they play in tackling some of our biggest challenges in society.

“Our unique value is connecting people, strengthening culture and building communities – together we are a force for good.”

Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) CEO Jon Bisset spoke of the community media sector’s connection to local communities on the ground:

“Our services are supported by 17800 volunteers and nearly 1000 employees – we have the trust of local audiences and responsibility to serve them well with quality media.

“Our role is becoming increasingly important to provide vital information to help communities respond to public health crises and climate change, and to counter growing misinformation and disinformation.”

Roadmap 2033 outlines four strategic priorities identified by the community broadcasting sector as essential. They are:

  • Growing our capability
  • Celebrating our identity and demonstrating our impact
  • Amplifying diverse voices
  • Securing our capacity to meet community needs

The CBAA and CBF will work with partners to resource delivery of Roadmap 2033, starting with a 12-month establishment phase.
