Cold case crime podcast attracts new evidence from listener

New evidence has been revealed about the NSW State Crime Command’s Lost at Sea – The Black Bone,’ podcast from a person reaching out after listening to the series.

The cold case podcast made by investigative journalist Adam Shand and the NSW Police State Crime Command received the fresh information which has led to a new episode of the podcast, detailing new evidence in the ongoing case.

Lost At Sea – The Black Bone, follows the case involving a human jawbone which was found at a beach on the NSW Central Coast in June 2020, possibly carried there by the storms and shifting sands.

The bone is in excellent condition but almost black.

Adam Shand and the NSW Police discover that there are more questions than answers. Through DNA analysis, police, and forensic experts, they are able to pull more information from the jawbone that could help identify who this forgotten person was and their fate.

The new evidence has taken the case in a new direction, and it remains an active police investigation that Shand takes listeners through on the podcast, with a call to action and an encouraging message for anyone with any information to reach out to police.

“The release of the podcast has led to a breakthrough piece of information which will help us to understand where the jawbone came from and who the individual might be,” said Shand.

“It’s enabled us to get around a couple of roadblocks to get to some very important witnesses that will drive the investigation forward.”

NSW Police State Crime Commander, Assistant Commissioner, Stuart Smith, said: “Forensic science advances, although valuable, are not the whole story – witnesses recounting memories can trigger a response from the public, sometimes years after an event.”

“The podcast allows evidence and information to be explored like never before through a different lens.”

Lost at Sea – The Black Bone part 2 is available now on LiSTNR.
