Ben and Liam unlikely to start KIIS Adelaide breakfast show until April
Nova has enforced a non-compete clause in Ben and Liam‘s contract that prevents them from going to air on the KIIS Adelaide breakfast show until after the exclusion period, believed to expire in April.
Ben and Liam, along with co-host Belle, were told by Nova last year that their contracts to present Late Drive on the Nova network would not be renewed for 2026.
It was thought they would remain on air until the end of the 2025 radio year in December, but they were ditched early from the show in October after Nova heard they might be snapped up by a rival network when news of the non-renewal became known.
Despite being ditched by Nova, Radio Today understands that their contract’s restraint clause, believed to be for 6 months from the contract end date, remains valid and that Nova has enforced it.
This is a really negative reflection on Nova Entertainment – make them redundant, then expect them not to work anywhere after.
Hopefully common sense prevails and ARN challenges this.
So let me get this straight… Nova sack on air staff. Those on air staff then look for new jobs. Then Nova says sorry we won’t allow you to work.
I’m sure this could be challenged at Fair Work Australia. Non compete clauses are designed to prevent staff being poached easily.
I guess this is the state of radio in 2026
I agree nova fires them and then when they find new jobs nova stop them even further I think nova need to just let them start in January and nova need to move on. You fired them, let them start January
Legally nhow is this even possible ? Nova dont want them but dont want them to work anywhere else. That is awful behavior from senior radio executives.
LISTNERS SHOULD BLACKLIST NOVA, ITS DISGUSTING NOT ALLOWING PEOPLE TO WORK WHEN NOVA AXED THEN IN THE 1ST PLACE
If Ben and Liam are on ‘gardening leave’ for 6 months which is what this sounds like, they are being paid a full time salary to sit at home and sunbathe. Right now they are saying “STFU!” 1st April is soon enough for them.
