Bec Judd shares near-death parachute story on SAFM’s Bernie & Emma G with Bel Sloane

This morning on SAFM’s Bernie & Emma G with Bel Sloane, Bec Judd opened up about an incredible near-death experience when her parachute failed to open during a tandem jump in Perth.

Bec and Jessie Roberts from the Vain-ish podcast joined Bernie Vince and Bel Sloane (who’s filling in for Emma G while she’s on parental leave) as part of their Unbelievably True Stories segment.

Bec revealed that, when she had just started dating her now-husband Chris Judd, they went skydiving together.

Bec says her parachute didn’t open, and she ended up free-falling nearly all the way to the ground.

Juddy jumped out, felt the parachute, and he’s all good. So we’re strapped to someone, I jump out, we’re falling through the sky. [my tandem guy] pulled the parachute, the parachute opened and tore off. It ripped off and went flying through the sky, and we started falling to the ground again.”

“Chris is watching, and we’d only been dating for a couple of months, and his tandem guy who he was strapped to went, ‘Oh, there goes your friend.’”

“And then, luckily, just before we got to the ground, he [tandem guy] found the little emergency parachute. Little thing, a dinky little kind of BS emergency parachute opened and saved us.”

Jessie also shared the unbelievably true story of when her child was almost abducted from a car whilst they were travelling in Naples.

“My daughter got kidnapped out of the taxi while we were parked going into the train station, getting our stuff out of the boot … luckily, the bus driver behind us saw it all unfold, and he was on the horn to kind of warn us that this guy was kind of coming towards the car. Next minute, there were people jumping off the bus. There was my husband, me with a baby strapped to me, racing after this guy. We jumped on top of him, tackled him.”

SAFM’s Bernie & Emma G airs weekdays from 6am to 9am on SAFM
