Andy Mathers stepping down as GM of K rock and 93.9 Bay FM

Reporter

After almost ten years at the helm of Geelong’s 93.9 Bay FM and K rock – and 3 decades in radio – Andy Mathers is calling it a day.

Mathers informed staff yesterday that Friday January 20th, 2023 will be his last day as General Manager at Geelong Broadcasters.

Mathers started his radio journey as a nineteen year old, driving the ‘K rock Cruiser’ over summer.

In a social media post, Mathers said that after leading a tremendously talented team of broadcast professionals “I have made the decision to step down to pursue a new career path outside of the media.”

“I’m fortunate to have much to be proud of over the journey and my hope is that I now leave both stations with a strong platform for future growth and a stable (brilliant) team ready to embrace every opportunity that 2023 and beyond throws at them.”

“The decision to leave a business and an industry I love so much was not taken lightly, but the time feels right.”

“Details on my exciting new role will be shared in time.”

Built a team that made KROCK and Bay into industry leading stations in sales/ creative and content. Looking forward to seeing what he does next. A loss for the industry.

One of the best leaders and nicest blokes in the business. Andy will be a great loss to Geelong Broadcasters and the radio industry in general, and whoever has gained his signature is very fortunate indeed.
