ABC Radio Canberra is welcoming a much-loved voice back to the Canberra airwaves, with Ross Solly returning to host the Drive program in 2024.

Already a familiar voice to the audience as ABC Radio Canberra’s former Breakfast host of nine years, Ross says he’s delighted to be returning to the weekday lineup.

“I’m super excited to get this opportunity to be part of the ABC Canberra local radio community once again,” he said.

“It’s an enormous privilege to be part of our listeners’ lives and I’m looking forward to reconnecting and sharing their stories.”

Julie Doyle, ABC Canberra Editor, says “It’s very exciting to welcome Ross back to ABC Canberra. He has a wonderful community connection and is an accomplished broadcaster and interviewer who also has a great sense of fun.”

ABC Radio Canberra is making other changes to its weekday lineup.

Adam Shirley will continue as Breakfast presenter in 2024.

Georgia Stynes will move from Afternoons to Mornings, showcasing her broadcasting skills on an agenda-setting program with a community news focus.

Alice Matthews will be the new host of Afternoons. Alice was the former Sunday Brunch presenter and is a regular presenter of the Canberra 7pm TV news bulletin.

Emma Bickley will continue to present Saturday Breakfast with her gardening co-host Graham ‘Willow’ Williams.

Current Drive presenter Anna Vidot will take up the breakfast radio newsreading role, joining Julian Abbott who will move into the afternoon newsreader role until his retirement in March 2024.

Andrew Messenger, the current afternoon newsreader, is retiring in December after 23 years with

“Andy Messenger’s retirement from our newsreading ranks leaves a big hole,” Ms Doyle says.

“But I’m really pleased to have a trusted voice in Anna Vidot who can move into the position of morning news reader. Anna will give Canberrans all the news they need to start their day.”

Lish Fejer, the previous Mornings presenter, takes up a new role focusing on creating digital audio and video content for the ABC listen app and ABC Canberra’s social platforms.

Ross takes over the Drive presenting role from the end of November and the other line-up changes will start in January 2024.

Lish Fejer has been a dud for yonks – only just returned to 666 breakfast once a mate advised me she was gone.

Just give her the bullet.

ABC Canberra continues its blatant misogyny. Clever, competent, strategic female thinkers not required apparently. Lish your clever segments, thoughtful analysis and progressive thinking will be greatly missed.

Lish has been the best morning presenter since Genevieve Jacobs. She is very witty, creative and fun. Her science education background has been a real strength and I have particularly enjoyed her segment on (English) language. She has great rapport with the people she interviews. She speaks clearly too, a rare talent among the younger presenters.

Many were very disappointed to hear Lish Fejer will not be presenting the breakfast show after the reshuffle for 2024. Her bubbly personality and communication skills will be very much missed. I hope she has an opportunity to return to ABC radio in the near future.
