It’s been a week of blasts from the past for Dean ‘Clairsy’ Clairs, as he hosts his final breakfast show on Perth’s 96FM this morning.

A much loved regular fixture on the WA airwaves for more than 40 years, Clairsy – one half of the Clairsy & Lisa show – announced last week that he was hanging up the headphones.

Today, at 8am WA time, his on-air replacement will be revealed.

This week, Clairsy has been inundated with well wishes from music royalty including James Reyne and Jimmy Barnes, along with comedy favourites and sporting greats.

Fremantle’s Hayden Young even surprised Clairsy with a signed guernsey from the whole team and coach, celebrating his four decades in radio – and 25 years working with the AFL.

There was also a truly memorable in-studio chat with Gary Roberts, the man who kicked it all off.

Clairsy revealed that, as a sixteen-year-old boy, he rang the legendary then-96FM boss from the landline phone in his mum’s bedroom to ask for a job.

Much to the receptionist’s surprise, a very nervous Clairsy politely asked if he could speak to ‘Mr Roberts’.

“I hear this voice of God answer the phone,” Clairsy remembered. “I started shaking.”

Roberts would end up hiring him years later.

Lovely sentiment and all credit to Clairsy for a long and illustrious career – what an iconic and strong voice!

I do find it a bit funny getting given a signed guernsey from the Dockers; he’s been involved in your gameday for 25 odd years and he has to retire from radio to get a jumper? Media budget cuts obviously have hit the AFL haha
