The Faction launches annual heavy music countdown the Hardest 100

Former Assistant Editor

The Faction is honouring the 50th anniversary of the Heavy Metal genre (ie. the birthday of Black Sabbath’s debut album) by launching its own heavy music countdown, the Hardest 100.

The Faction have partnered with The Music for the live countdown taking place on Saturday March 17 at 11am (AEST), just a week out from the first annual Download Festival.

The countdown can be streamed on The Faction website, the exclusive app and iHeartRadio.

Voters will go into the draw to win a double pass to Download in Melbourne, which includes flights and accomodation, five $50 24Hundred vouhchers, a $250 OzTix voucher and a double pass to BigSound Festival live shows in 2018.

“This is an epic opportunity for everyone who is into heavy music to get involved and show that there’s a strong voice for our scene – vote for the best heavy songs of all time, vote for Australian heavy songs, vote for the most obscure black metal band you can think of – if it’s good, vote for it – who knows what might end up in the countdown!” said The Faction founder Tim Price.

“We’ve tried to make a list that encompasses MOST things, but you can also add your own votes in as well to ensure this is as inclusive as possible and in the hands of the fans. AND you can win a tonne of prizes.

“The Faction delivers 24/7 heavy music every day of the year to bring the scene together and we’re stoked to include the Hardest 100 to further that goal.”

The voting list has been announced as having 50% Australian music and 25% female fronted acts for the countdown, as an inclusive way of celebrating the history of heavy music.

To go into the draw, voters must download The Faction app, available here, before submitting their entry.

Voting is open now, and for more information head to The Faction’s official website.
