This morning on Mix102.3’s Max & Ali in the Morning, Ali announced that she is taking a few weeks off the airwaves to undergo her second mastectomy, with 7News Adelaide presenter Rosanna Mangiarelli filling in in her absence.

Ali revealed her breast cancer diagnosis earlier in the year, undergoing her first mastectomy in July.

This morning, Ali shared on the Breakfast show that she is removing her second breast as a “safety thing,” explaining that when she initially discovered the news, she and her husband, AFLW coach Matthew Clarke, immediately thought “Well, what’s going on in the other one?”

Ali explained “For us, it’s a safety thing, it’s also a bit of taking control back, more so for the kids because you know I’m doing this without worrying about cancer and everything else, even though that’s in the background, but it’s just the choice we’ve made, and we are very, very comfortable with it.”

Mangiarelli offered her best wishes ahead of Ali’s surgery.

“Ali, how you’ve handled this whole hurdle has been absolutely amazing and hats off to you, you’re a real trouper and I just wanted to wish you all the very best for the next step in what’s been a pretty scary thing … we talk about physical changes but you know a lot of us forget about what the emotional impact it has as well, so best of luck.”

“I’m very excited to be sitting in for you and hanging out with Max for a bit!”

The announcement falls on the same day as Mix102.3’s Breast Check Day, reminding listeners to check their breasts on the first of every month.
