Dedicated listener creates unique award for Cheralyn Darcey
Fresh from her recent triumph at the Australian Audio Awards, the Super Radio Network’s Cheralyn Darcey has been bestowed with another honour.
Nugget – a dedicated listener and regular caller to Cheralyn’s Nightline program – created a unique trophy for her, made from an emu egg.
When he found out Cheralyn was up for an Australian Audio Award, Nugget told her was going to make her a trophy, irrespective of the outcome.

“He said he was going to carve me an emu egg,” Cheralyn said on video, as she opened her special package from Nugget.
“Oh my goodness, Nugget. This is amazing!” Cheralyn exclaimed. “This is fantastic!”
“Nugget, thank you so much. It’s beautiful.”
Cheralyn posted to LinkedIn, saying: “One of the greatest joys of hosting The Nightline is getting to know the wonderful people who listen.”
“Today I received a truly unique and heartfelt gift from Nightliner ‘Nugget’ who handcrafted a beautiful Egg Trophy and sent it to me as his own award for Best Newcomer to Commercial Radio. After recently being honoured with an Australian Audio Award for the same, I can honestly say this handmade trophy means just as much because it comes from the heart of someone who has been part of the journey.”
“If you’re a regular listener, you’ll know Nugget well. He’s one of our familiar voices who calls not only The Nightline, but many of the presenters across the Super Radio Network. Every Tuesday night he particularly enjoys sharing his knowledge of Indigenous spiritual stories and traditions with Anne and Renata during Frightfully Good Ghost Stories, adding a fascinating perspective to the conversation.”
“The thing about radio is that it’s never just about the person behind the microphone. It’s about the people on the other side of it. The listeners who call, share their stories, make us laugh, teach us something new and become part of our lives night after night.”
“So thank you, Nugget. Thank you for your kindness, your support, your stories, your friendship and for taking the time to create something so thoughtful. Your Egg Trophy has pride of place and will always remind me that the real reward in radio is the incredible community we build together”.
“From one grateful Nightliner to another, thank you.”
The Nightline with Cheralyn Darcey can be heard weeknights 8pm to midnight AEST on 2HD Newcastle and across Australia on the 2SM Super Radio Network.
