Triple M on top in GfK Survey 1 for Newcastle

Reporter

Triple M has dominated GfK Survey 1 for Newcastle, with a 3.0 gain overall in 10+, taking the SCA team to 23.3, coming in well ahead of its sister station Hit 106.9 (down 2.1 to 13.3), NEW FM (down 0.4 to 11.0) and triple j (up 0.9 to 10.0).

Triple M Newcastle saw share gains across all shifts across the daytime, with its local Breakfast  team of Tanya & Steve lifting 2.3, from 22.2 to 24.5. Hit’s Jess & Ducko hold down second spot in Breakfast (down 1.2 to 14.7), followed by ABC Newcastle and triple j, jointly in third.

SCA Head of Regional Content Blair Woodcock says “We have seen magnificent results in Survey #1 across Triple M and Hit Newcastle stations, with an incredible 68.8% of the 25-54 market represented across both stations.

“A huge congratulations to Triple M’s Tanya and Steve on celebrating 10 years on-air and 10 years as Newcastle’s #1 Breakfast show. Tanya and Steve have added an extra jewel to their crown by notching up their largest-ever audience at 114,000 people – proving Newcastle can’t get enough of this dynamic duo.”

“The good news for Newcastle extends to the refreshed Hit Breakfast show, Jess and Ducko, which continues to grow its audience and claims #1 with people under 40 and F25-54.

“Congratulations to our entire team in Newcastle on these extraordinary results.”

SCA Chief Content Officer Dave Cameron says “Ten years on top, and today delivering an all-time record result is an incredible achievement for Newcastle’s radio royalty, Tanya and Steve on Triple M Breakfast, who continue to absolutely dominate Newcastle. Our huge congratulations today to this incredible partnership, that Newcastle continues to fall in love with.”

Why is it always about SCA? Barely a mention of NEWFM or 2HD.

If New Fm had a breakfast show in the demo, professionally produced and well resourced, it would totally take out number 2. Music and imaging are good, just need big promos centered around a killer breakfast show with one or two personalities of mass appeal.

I’ve always found Steve a very touching presenter

Unfortunately NEW struggles to retain talent. There has been several key presenters leave the station over the last few years.
