Nic Kelly ticks off major bucket list item with Ryan Beatty interview

As co-host of the Hot Hits on SCA’s Hit Network, Nic Kelly is no stranger to chatting with some of world’s biggest artists.

But American singer-songwriter Ryan Beatty has been on his interview bucket list since 2018, when his debut album Boy In Jeans was released.

Beatty has previously only done a handful of interviews. Nic was prepared to be patient. And it was certainly worth the wait.

This week, Beatty joined Nic for a thoughtful conversation about his new album Sweet Fortune, writing from a happier place, and learning to be more direct in his songwriting.

He also sent a message to his Australian fans: He sees you. He hasn’t forgotten about you, and coming to Australia WILL happen.

On LinkedIn, Nic said “I wanted to wait ‘til he was ready to talk to me.”

“I feel that way with every artist – I want to wait ‘til they’re in the space to put context around a record. The commercial radio space I work in can be too demanding and expectant of artists to share, but we should be grateful for anything they provide more than their art. They all have direct to fan connections and being one of few that gets to sit with the artist and put words around it is the biggest honour.”

“Thank you to the unbelievable Thomas Bleach who knows how to speak my language and champion me to teams, and the team on Ryan’s end for being so receptive and generous. And of course Ryan. He’s soundtracked so much of my last decade, and the opportunity to have this conversation sits deep for me.”
