Survey 5 humbles 2GB and KIIS 106.5

The GFK Radio 360 Metro Survey 5 results were released on Tuesday, showing some interesting developments in Sydney for the usual leaders 2GB and KIIS 106.5.

The heavyweights took some of the biggest hits on the board in the 10+ this survey, with 2GB falling -2.7 to 11.6 and KIIS 106.5 -2.0 to 10.0.

2GB fell -8.1 in the 65+ demographic and had losses across all time slots. The worst of the losses were in Ben Fordham’s Breakfast (-3.5), Ray Hadley’s Mornings (-4.2) and the Evenings bracket (-3.9).

It wasn’t all rosy for KIIS in the time sessions either, with losses in all times except Evenings, which only had a 0.1 increase.

The most notable session losses for KIIS 106.5 were The Kyle & Jackie O Show’s Breakfast (-3.1), Mornings (-3.3) and Afternoons (-3.1).

But the news that will really rattle KIIS this survey is The Kyle and Jackie O Show’s gut-wrenching drop of 104,000 listeners in their Mon-Fri cume.

Overall, 2GB and KIIS 106.5 are still at the top in their city, but the falls have brought them closer to rival Sydney stations.

KIIS is now separated from smoothfm 95.3 by only 0.1 in the 10+, despite smooth having losses in all age demographics and almost all time sessions.

The highest gaining Sydney stations in the 10+ this survey were 104.9 Triple M with +0.9, then WSFM and triple with +0.7.

WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda have enjoyed a +1.1 jump in the Breakfast slot to take them ahead of smoothfm 95.3 and ABC Radio Sydney.

In the DAB, CADA is still on top, moving a further 6,000 to a total of 153,000 audience.

Righto. I have nearly 45 years in Sydney Radio – On Air and behind the scenes. I’ve seen bumps and bounces over the years but never like today’s GFK Survey Results. Breakfast – KIIS down, 2GB down. Is anyone else questioning this bounce? Congrats to those who have benefited, BUT to see Christian O’Connell’s show on Melbourne’s Gold bumped so far down the ladder appears to be absurd. Thoughts?

Something’s wrong. I’ve been following ratings for quite some time ago but honestly, something’s just not sitting right with these survey results.
