Super Radio Network (SRN) has today announced the appointment of Graham Mott as its new Chief Executive Officer.

It follows the recent resignation of his predecessor Rhys Holleran.

Mott is a well-known and respected radio leader, bringing years of experience in the commercial radio sector.

He also knows the network well, having recently been involved in a number of network wide programs for SRN.

“We are delighted to welcome Graham to Super Radio Network,” said Chairperson Joan Warner. “Graham will be a valuable addition as CEO as the network moves towards the future.”

Director Despina Priala said “Graham is a great and well-respected radio operator and his contribution to SRN will be invaluable.”

“Graham has a great understanding of the Super Radio Network and I very much look forward to working with him,” said Director George Caralis.

“I am delighted to be joining SRN as CEO,” said Mott. “Over the past year, working on a number of projects across the group, I have come to understand some of the complexities of the Super Radio Network.”

“I am also very cognisant of the challenges facing a regional radio network, and of course radio in general, in the current economic climate.”

Super Radio Network is the largest privately owned commercial network in Australia with 45 radio stations across NSW, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

The network was started by Bill and Pam Caralis in 1987. For 12 months, after the passing of both Bill and Pam, George Caralis and Despina Priala acted as Joint Managing Directors of the network until Joan Warner joined the company as Chair in August 2025, when George and Despina took on the roles of non-executive Directors.

2SM should join the ratings surveys. We have no idea about how many people listen.

It is difficult to listen to the station on a normal radio – poor reception.

The competitive edge for the station should be conservative announcers as 2GB gets more woke.

The strength of 2SM is the talkback – good to hear people being able to call in and voice views and be given time to do it. It can be great radio hearing what people think and what is happening in their lives. Creates a listening community. 2GB is doing less and less talkback, with texts encouraged instead, lots of advertising and announcers doing lots of interviews.

Time for a drivetime talkback program (late afternoon) rather than a sports show at this time.

On a Sunday night a Catholic priest should have the airtime as use to happen in the past. Especially since Bill Crews on 2GB is not really hosting a religious program – very woke and secular.

From what I’ve heard of 2SM, the station needs A LOT of work before it’s anywhere near ready to participate in the GfK surveys, let alone outrate 2GB.

Station playout is an absolute mess, regularly ranging from stuff playing on top of each other to lengthy bouts of silence which you can faintly hear 2HD Newcastle ad breaks under.

The DAB+ stations: Does anyone there realise that Gorilla and Zoo have been dead air for years?

Aside from the more technical stuff, programming quality is fairly poor especially outside breakfast and drive. The 2HD-emulated night/overnight and probably also weekend shows seem to be a mix of callers allowed to ramble on and music. Super Radio Network News bulletins aren’t updated after about 8pm on weeknights (yet somehow still aren’t played out properly…), at least Nine Radio/Tapt Media have something resembling a proper 24/7 service even if it goes national overnight!

Online news should be updated a lot more frequently: January 20 was the most recent time a story was posted in the “News” section on 2SM’s website! And while the station is pretty active on Facebook, the quality of the graphics/images posted leaves a fair bit to be desired.

Don’t even get me started on Chris Smith’s “Castle of Common Sense” which is probably the most far right wing (not even pro-Liberal Party, pro-One Nation and Trump!) program on Australian broadcast radio with at times, real nasty anti-vaxxer, anti-trans, etc. topics.

The reason 2SM don’t go in the radio ratings is because they would struggle to rate 1% in Sydney

2gb is the voice of the people and with truthful reporting. A media for all Australians from all cultures to voice their concerns. They are sometimes the first media to report daily incidents as they happen. 2gb has helped many Australians in the past by contacting politicians or those who have the power to right a wrong and expose those unaustralian acts inflicted on some of the vulnerable members in our society, we would not read or hear about these things elsewhere. 2gb is the go to media if Australians need to report on an big incident keeping the listeners well informed.
If one wants to keep up with daily events 2gb is it!
