Sarah Macdonald to leave ABC Radio Sydney Mornings
Sarah Macdonald is to finish up her role as ABC Radio Sydney’s Mornings presenter, revealing on air today that her contract is not being renewed.
“I am proud of what I’ve done,” Macdonald told her listeners this morning. “The ratings are up. I’ve broken lots of stories. Had the first interview with the new governor general. I got the premier of New South Wales to regularly take your calls. Led the election coverage, led the move to our Parramatta studios.”
Unconfirmed social media posts also say that ABC Sydney weekend presenter Simon Marnie has been made redundant. Marnie has over 25 years of service with the ABC. radioinfo contacted Marine, who declined to comment.
An announcement of an overhaul is expected soon, with Fran Kelly tipped to return to daily news on ABC Radio.
Kelly left RN Breakfast three years ago after 17 years at the helm of the ABC’s flagship news program.
This year, she has been fronting RN’s Saturday Extra.

What is wrong with the ABC management?
Sarah is one top presenter and maybe it’s about the almighty $
And replace her with someone on a ” cheaper” contract.
Sarah is great. This sucks. What is going on? I am so disappointed.
This is upsetting, are we getting rid of the smart women and trying to make it more blokey like Nova?
Why is the ABC getting rid of a couple of fantastic, intelligent and entertaining staff members?
Is this to bring ‘our ABC’ down and to loose listeners?
We are disappointed and shocked that poor choices are being made and that Sarah is not being valued.
I agree, Abc sydney radio is making a big mistake sacking Sarah. She was great. Why do they get rid of good presenters every few years?
I cannot believe the madness of this decision – to not renew Sarah’s contract!!!! She presented such a well balanced show. I’m very upset!!
