Rod & Gabi to host Hit 104.7 Breakfast as Wilko & Courts depart

Reporter

After twelve months hosting Breakfast radio in Canberra, Hit 104.7’s Neil ‘Wilko’ Wilcock and Courtenay ‘Courts’ Kneen – aka Wilko & Courts – have informed their listeners they’ve decided to leave the station to seek a better work-life balance.

“We came to a decision that the breakfast hours didn’t suit our lives. With Courts having a couple of young kids and Wilko having a middle-aged dog, 3am starts are very taxing.”

“We’ve loved working together again and don’t plan to stop that! Instead, it’ll just come with a later starting time.”

Replacing Wilko & Courts (pictured above) on brekky will be Mix 106.3 Drive show duo Rod & Gabi (main photo), who’ll literally be moving across the corridor to the Hit 104.7 studio.

amplifyCBR General Manager Craig Wagstaff says “Wilko & Courts advised us late last year of their plans for 2025 and gave us the considerable respect of ample time, ahead of their finish on air.”

“In Rod and Gabi, not only is their pairing one of great chemistry and relatability to audiences, it’s also one that has significant localism to the Canberra region, a pillar we place emphasis on in most of what we aim to do.”

Wilko & Courts’ last show will be this Friday, February 7, with Rod & Gabi taking over from Monday, February 24.

Embarrassing for everyone involved that this is the outcome after publicly dumping a popular team

Someone Rod’s age shouldn’t be the face of an under 40’s station. How did this get through?

So it was a mistake turfing Ned and Josh after all

No matter how you cut it, dumping a team of six years to only last one is a failure by everyone, but especially management… who also happens to be the new host

Always nice to see young talent get these very rare opportunities to thrive and show what they can do. Well done to the management for giving this Rod fellow a go!

So Ned and Josh’s axing was for what exactly?

Thank goodness the content director was there to give the show to himself

Two of the kindest radio announcers in the industry – a real shame that Canberra won’t get to wake up with them in the future 🙁

Goodness, these Canberra roll outs over the years… Is anyone from SCA or ARN keeping an eye on Canberra and its management team?

But isn’t Rod the content director?

Fun little business move – dump brekky (let’s be honest), shift drive, and then save money by networking a new drive.

Mix 106.3 Drive I wonder if it will be The Marty Sheargold Show or Will & Woody.

Yet another change in Canberra?!

So that “new direction” the station was meant to go after unceremoniously dumping Ned & Josh……how’s that going?

The mix in Canberra is so confusing like content wise. E.g would’ve thought the vibe like to be other kiis/mix in the country but it gives more triple m vibe, which it feels odd.

Also that’s quick turnaround for wilko and courts given the investment they gotten from Canberra management to axed the other team to give the gig to them.

Why not make wilko and courts the hit vic based state wide show. Instead of broadcasting from a local team in Hobart. They can even based themselves from Albury since it’s closer to Canberra.
