Robin & Kip set the record straight on ‘frosty’ rumours as new KIIS Breakfast show airs this week
Robin Bailey, Kip Wightman and Corey Oates wasted no time nipping a few rumours in the bud when their first full Breakfast show as a trio – Robin & Kip with Corey Oates – went to air this week on Brisbane’s KIIS 97.3.
Kip set the record straight about a recent article which suggested ‘brewing tensions’ and a ‘frosty dynamic’ between himself and Robin, dismissing it all as pure fiction.
“We should address this, Robin. You and I do not have a frosty relationship. I can safely say this is possibly the least frosty relationship I’ve ever had at work,” Wightman said on air.
Robin told of previous radio colleagues who actually hated one another.
“I’ve worked with people where you don’t speak, people I was told not to look at, and others who wouldn’t even look me in the eye,” she said.
Robin said she even remembers one team who – literally, 30 seconds before the mics were turned on – were in a headlock, punching each other.
After nearly two decades hosting Breakfast at Nova Brisbane, Kip moved over to KIIS in 2021.
In November last year, it was announced that former NRL star Corey Oates was officially joining Robin and Kip as part of the brekky team.
When he announced his retirement from the Brisbane Broncos in October, Robin and Kip took it upon themselves to help him find a new career, in what became a daily segment called Find Corey a Job.
And, as Corey settles into his new on-air role, there are no worries about any tensions or aggro from his end.
“I’m just not an angry person,” he said.
Robin & Kip with Corey Oates is on every weekday morning from 5:30am on KIIS 97.3
Will any of that matter in 11 months time?
