“The entire thing was devastating.” Kyle on life after K & J

Reporter

Kyle Sandilands working for Pauline Hanson? That’s news to One Nation.

In an exclusive tell-all interview with the Game Changers Radio podcast, released at six o’clock this morning, Sandilands reveals to hosts Craig Bruce and Irene Hulme:

I’ve been working on getting their messaging across, which I think has been well received.”

But according to news.com.au (which was offered the first bite of the media pie with a sneak peek of this interview) One Nation Chief of Staff James Ashby denies Sandilands is working for the party in any capacity, official or otherwise.

Sandilands waxes lyrical about Hanson, describing the polarising senator as one as one of his favourite people now, saying he is inspired by both Hanson and former Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce, who defected to One Nation late last year.

“They’re not what everyone thinks they are – they’re not like a lunatic racist party of country bumpkins that think that the world should change, but a lot more common sense stuff.”

Sandilands opens up to Bruce and Hulme about his decision to accept a $12 million settlement following his legal battle with ARN, saying it was about putting his ego aside.

Sandilands says that, armed with the evidence they had, his lawyers had been confident of a good outcome. But the experience as a whole was brutal.

“It was, I have to say, devastating. The entire thing. The accusations. The job falling apart and the show falling apart was one thing, but to feel that I wasn’t sure what was real and what wasn’t real at one stage with the whole Jackie and I situation.”

“Because I’ve always thought we were very open … and over a decade ago we said ‘Nothing’s off-limits between us,’ and if we DO cross a line, we’ll let each other know verbally or visually if it’s a live thing – and that never happened. So I was devastated that if that’s what she was feeling, that I’d caused that, or was it a legal strategy? I’ll probably never know.”

Sandilands reveals that, over the course of just a few months, he has already spent over a million dollars in legal fees.

Whilst he says his lawyers were confident they could “get ‘em” for 35 to 45 million, Sandilands said he’s happy to earn the money.

“I’m not like ahahahaha, I f*cked them over! I’d do the show for free. It’s not as if we’re broke.”

Sandilands then takes aim at one journalist who scoffed at the 12 million figure:

“It’s more than you’ll ever earn in your f*cking entire life.”

Sandilands feels optimistic about the possibility of catching up – and patching things up – with Jackie Henderson.

In the months since their disastrous on-air fallout, Sandilands says he has repeatedly apologised to his former co-host and that they are now “loosely communicating” with one another.

Sandilands is scathing in his assessment of 2GB Breakfast host Ben Fordham.

Following criticism in the press, Sandilands says that, when he was invited to come onto Fordham’s show, he told him “No. F*ck YOU!”

“I don’t put up with his bullshit,” Sandilands says.

Sandilands also detailed plans for his forthcoming new show, which at this stage is due to air around August.

To be called Kyle Daily and described by Sandilands as ‘a slicker version of the Today Show (visual, with no ads and no censorship) it will go to air live Monday to Friday from 6am to 10am and be available via an app, on subscription.

It’s over, Kyle. Western Sydney car drivers loved you, but literally no one else, as the ratings showed.
