News Corp sells its 13% stake in ARN Media

Reporter

News Corp Australia has sold its 13% remaining stake in ARN Media, owner of the KIIS and GOLD radio networks.

The trade – which crossed 40.8 million shares at 44 cents per share – was executed after the market closed yesterday.

A News Corp spokesperson told The Australian (subscription required) that the “divestment in ARN continues our focus on our core consumer businesses and our digital client products.”

The stake sale is worth around 18 million dollars.

Last month, ARN flagged that its full-year EBITDA could be 25% to 27% lower than the previous year – citing ‘significant softness’ in the advertising market.

…. It’s a Greek Tragedy – News Corp clearly sees no further value in Radio….. on another note and as per the Gamechanger podcast if you see no Value in the GFK ratings and want to be “border less” why doesn’t ARN just further write down the value of their radio licenses now ???

Hopefully she is thinking, hmm my 11.5% they gave me is worth about 70% less than what it was in 2021/2022… but they did give me a swag of cash… and I could just, buy some more, at 46 cents oops i accidentally took it over… welcome home everyone who is left.

We can only dream.

Maybe have a look at what they purchased them for? Pretty sure it was in the range of $1… so written off a $20m+ loss which surely they’re not happy about.

If I’m not mistaken, the investment in ARN was something which came about nearly a decade ago when News Corp bought the APN News and Media regional newspapers…many of which have since closed/gone online-only!

Not sure if radio was ever a “core” business for them, especially as there was little if any discernible influence from News in the on-air output of predominantly music-based stations AFAIK.

@SydneyCityTV

Correct, was a messy merger/split that had 3 companies in it called Gulgong. NewsCorp is just getting rid of the sinking ship before its worth $0

@John

You’ve ignored the fact that dividends are paid out. Each share made News Corp a dividend return of $2.03 / a total of $82,830,357.96.
