Mix 106.3 Canberra to adopt the KIIS Network branding in 2020

Staff Writer

Mix 106.3 Canberra will adopt the “look and feel” of the KIIS Network brand in 2020.

Canberra FM, a joint venture between Australian Radio Network and Southern Cross Austereo, announced the refresh today.

The broadcaster says the change reflects the station’s position as a vibrant market-leader.

No lineup changes are expected as part of the Mix 106.3 Canberra facelift.

Kristen Davidson and Nige Johnson remain on Breakfast and The Wilko Show with Courts on Drive.

“MIX 106.3 has been part of Canberra life since our inception as 106.3 KIX FM in 1988,” says MIX 106.3 Canberra CD, Rod Cuddihy.

“As MIX 106.3 has grown alongside Canberra’s evolution into Australia’s most progressive and contemporary city, it only makes sense that our logo does the same.

“The essence of what listeners love about MIX 106.3 remains unchanged but the rebrand has given us an opportunity to look at everything we do with a fresh approach and in so doing continue to create a station specifically for Canberra that is genuine, fun and celebrates everything that Canberran’s love about this incredible city.”

Mix 106.3 was again the #1 station in Canberra on 18.3% in the latest GfK radio ratings. The station finished Survey #3 just ahead of Hit 104.7 on 15.4% and triple j on 12.7%.

I know it has ownership/historical links to ARN, but interesting that the rebrand will follow the KIIS branding instead of SCA’s Mix 94.5 branding from Perth.

Mix 106.3 takes no programming from ARN, instead taking Kennedy Molloy from SCA. Seems little opportunity for a network feel with KIIS unless a change is made to its on air programming too. If even 96FM can carry Kyle & Jackie O on air, surely Mix 106.3 will soon?
