LiSTNR celebrates Pride Month with new Come Out Wherever You Are podcast

LiSTNR has launched a new podcast which seeks to explore the unique lived experiences of Australia’s LGBTQIA+ community.

Hosted by Sean Szeps, Come Out Wherever You Are will consist of interviews with members of the Australian LGBTQIA+ community to discuss the aspects of different identities, their coming out experiences and how society can support those who identify as LGBTQIA+, with the first series specifically focusing on non-binary, gay, lesbian, queer, pansexual, and bisexual identities.

Guests include content creator and queer activist Deni Todorovic, journalist and radio presenter Patricia Karvelas, businesswoman Sophie Cachia, Just The Gist co-host Jacob Stanley and ABC Heywire winner Kirra Hampson.

Podcast host Szeps said that Come Out Wherever You Are would provide listeners with perspectives on the experience of coming out, as well as what comes afterward.

“For many members of the queer community, the coming out experience is the most troubling and equally liberating moment of our lives,” Szeps said.

“It’s a line in the sand for our time on earth: before coming out and after. And yet, there hasn’t been a space in the Australian media landscape to stop and highlight that momentous experience. Come Out Wherever You Are is my attempt to hold that space.”

LiSTNR’s head of content for original podcasts, Jennifer Goggin, who also helped develop the podcast over the span of several months, lauded Szeps’ ability to explore the gender and sexual spectrum in such an engaging manner.

“Sean’s genuine curiosity, warmth and vulnerability with his guests has led to an incredibly powerful podcast which is raw, entertaining and informative all at the same time,” Goggin said.

Come Out Wherever You Are is available now via LiSTNR.
