Kyle & Jackie O reportedly eye off addition of Melbourne Breakfast
Rumours have begun circulating that have the radio industry listening.
Recently, on Melbourne’s The Fox 101.9, Brendan Fevola revealed to co-hosts Fifi Box and Nick Cody an insider told him Kyle & Jackie O may also appear on Melbourne Breakfast from next year.
The insider who supposedly works in the Sydney radio scene told Fev over the phone he “might have some competition next year.”
“Kyle and Jackie.”
Fifi and Nick were left gobsmacked by the news, and Fev made it clear he wasn’t impressed, saying the Sydney Breakfast duo aren’t “the right DNA” for Melbourne.
All three agreed that Kyle & Jackie O wouldn’t suit Melbourne, with Fifi adding, “You should be in Melbourne when you’re broadcasting to Melbourne.”

The speculation of Kyle & Jackie O’s prospects in Melbourne follows earlier reports from last month suggesting the pair are weighing up their options as their contract with ARN nears its end.
The reliable insider told The Australian Financial Review, “It’s about more money and making it a bigger show, meaning reaching more markets.”
“It’s very likely it’ll end up being the biggest talent media deal ever.”
With less than 18 months on their contracts, more may be revealed as negotiations take shape.
Having Kyle & Jackie O on Breakfast in Melbourne would also mean current KIIS 101.1 Breakfast hosts Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips would likely be shuffled at the station.

Many so called celebrities broadcast based in one state and broadcast into another market. Mick Malloy is one. That argument is old. Many shows are networked particularly afternoon shows so that argument is old to. It is a case of whether they can break into the Melbourne audience.
Outside of western Sydney, where he is an absolute king amongst men, Kyle is poison to everyone else in Australia. Kiis will do it. Kiis give him everything he wants. They have no other choice.
Makes sense. Kyle and Jackie are a once in a generation talent who, love them or hate them, are the highest profile radio show in the country and generate the most buzz.
Wish they’d do that to Brisbane’s KIIS as well.
Could be another nail in the coffin for SCA.
No doubt Fifi, Fev and Nick are gobsmacked by the news…… it’s known as competition.
I’m also sure the heavyweights in content at SCA are also gobsmacked and worried.
It doesn’t matter where content originates from.
Everyone remember the breakfast shift booming into Sydney out of SCA’s Melbourne studio?
If this happens, mark it as the beginning of the end for non-Sydney radio teams.
Once the suits find that they can spend less and still have “content” on air, brace yourselves for another round of regional and metro redundancies.
Whether it’s a good idea or not is another story.
Mick Molloy networking Sydney and Melbourne too is the word. Mick is huge in Melbourne.
If Sydney is the beautiful sister and Melbourne the smartest one…. I hope Melbourne is not going to be fooled by Kyle and female co-host…..
The proof that KJ will work in Melbourne is right in front of you. Look at the amount of comments they’ve received from those who think they’ll tank and those who think they’ll prosper in Melbourne. No show gets as much talkability as KJ. FB posts from articles and groups are jam-packed with people’s opinions on the duo. Whether Melbournians are tuning in because they love them of hate them, they’ll be tuning in.
KJ have been underestimated their whole careers, remember when SCA thought they were too old and on the way out? Those thinking they won’t work in Melbourne are in the same boat as SCA in 2013.
Forget localism, there’s only one metric that actually matters: is the show good? KJ’s mammoth audience would indicate that the answer’s a resounding ‘yes’.
Won’t be a cost saving that’s for sure.
Kyle has a gun to ARN’s head and he wants to be national. Why shouldn’t he, he’s the best in the business.
Kyle would even rate 5% in Melbourne we hate him here.

You should be more concerned with your inherent sexism than worrying about KJ possibly being broadcast into Melbourne. Say what you want about Kyle, but to his credit he (rightly) fought for Jackie to have pay parity with him.
Hopefully SCA will get rid of Marty Sheargold and bring back Mick , or even better moonman for the Melbourne breakfast show .
Bring it on… since Chrissy Sam and browny finished last year, FM Breakfast radio is one big yawn… slight exception is Christian O’Connell
Maybe SCA are dangling the networked into Melbourne carrot in front of K&J to get them back along with a good $$ contract as well . So Fifi Fev & Nick might be the ones to go ?
Honestly, SCA should just try and get them for national. National Podcasts have them always in the top 5, so why not? It could solve a lot of issues for them, as long as ‘local content’ allows them to.

JB makes a good point Kyle fighting for equal pay for Jackie was a top effort. ARN should have addressed this years before.
And they should ensure equal pay with their other shows too. Kyle surprised a lot of people doing this as we know how much he loves money and it’s fair to say he is the star of the show. Credit to the big man.

Wow… talking about sexism in post about KIIS Sydney Breakfast show….have you heard what kind of segments they’ve got in that show?!! It would be a great diploma work about that. Clearly no HR department in the building…
Personally I think Kylie is running the show, Jackie has no voice there, very bland,she has no opinions of her own…
True – Sydney’s beautiful but Melbourne has a brain.
