Brent James parts way with 4BC

Reporter

4BC Music Director and presenter Brent James has been made redundant.

James joined the Brisbane Nine Radio station following the demise of 4KQ.

As well as his MD role, James was heard on the networked music based program Saturday Night Live.

Is there any station owned by Nine Radio untouched by their poor understanding of how radio actually works?

Nine is very arrogant. Not only with their extreme right wing radio but also their television programs..

Honestly, I just can’t understand why Nine would want to be involved with Radio, they don’t have any idea.

I have just contacted via my mobile Nova 1069 switch I advise very nice female receptionist over Brisbane management to sign Brent James as a producer of Ash Luts and Susie, O’Neill, and Nova 1069 Can bring listeners to their station from 4BC. And the very nice lady I spoke to said she would pass my recommendation on to Nova Brisbane measurements go to those who listened to Brent Janes at both 4KQ and at 4BC.

Peter, mentions below about right wing radio. He’s correct but the reason it is there because there are a certain % of the population who need to be told how to think and that is what the nine network stations like GB, AW & BC do. Every presenter ecourages the right wing line of thought and the rusted on listeners believe everything they hear presuming it is factual & the truth.

Very sad when anyone loses their job but frankly I could never understand why a news and talk back station needed a music director to begin with,seemed a strange appointment and I guess they have now realised that.Good luck Brent.

Hopefully 4BH picks him up. 4BH is good but the music isn’t quite right, and Brent could certainly fix that.

Nine is as bad as Murdoch and Stokes. Perhaps the Costello factor?

I agree that Brent James and 4BH would be a great mix. While their music isn’t bad, 4BH isn’t 4KQ, and any detailed break down of their ratings would support that.
Brent’s appointment as Music Director of 4BC always had the feel about it of just following Laurel, Gary and Mark from 4KQ.

Good luck to Brent, he’s Brisbane radio royalty. I’m surprised that 4BC picked him up after 4KQ’s closure, as he would’ve been better suited to 4BH and improved their very average, repetitive playlist.

@Peter Henderson – extreme right-wing radio? Just because it’s a counter-balance to the ABC?

@Allan – what a very average statement to make. BC, GB & AW provide some kind of balance. I don’t need to be told how to think, so I find your comment perplexing.

Allan I agree with you regarding right wing anything, whether it be radio or that horrible Murdoch media junk. There’s proven studies about something which is called confirmation bias, which can explain why certain people enjoy right wing propaganda. Those people may not get told what to think, but they enjoy hearing and receiving confirmation of what they already think. Hearing announcers etc having opinions which align with their own tends to give them a certain confirmation , and concretes those opinions. Having those opinions confirmed can be empowering and imitate a pat on the back, which equals a loyal listener. Thankfully this situation applies only to a minority of the population and not the norm, but even a minority could be enough to improve the ratings of the outlet. Murdoch has proved that to be the case in the U.S with his Fox News outlet.
