Jo & Lehmo sign off with Oasis hit ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’

In one of the most talked about radio moves this year, Jo and Lehmo have left the building.

Jo Stanley and Anthony Lehmann signed off on Friday after Australian Radio Network’s decision not to renew their contracts.

“This will be our last break. We’ll call it our farewell break,” Lehmann said. “On Gold,” Stanley was quick to point out.

The pair took the opportunity to thank listeners, clients and the behind the scenes team. They officially signed off with the Oasis hit ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’.

When asked by Radio Today, multiple industry experts could not recall a survey-topping breakfast show getting the axe.

The duo had just recorded one of their best books to date, becoming the #1 FM breakfast show in Melbourne, even overtaking Fox FM in Survey 7. However, ARN has previously said it has a long-term strategic plan for the station.

Survey 8 results are out next week on December 19. It’s thought that this latest move will put the Pure Gold station back in the ratings pack with Melbourne sister station KIIS FM.

There has still been no announcement of a replacement, but national content director Duncan Campbell said last month that a new team will be installed.

“There will be a local show on GOLD 104.3 in Melbourne in 2018, and we’ll share more on these plans shortly.”

However, Radio Today this week learned that ARN staff were told there will be no new breakfast show until at least March, to allow room for KIIS 101.1 to relaunch in the market with Jase and PJ on Breakfast and Will and Woody on Drive.

It’s understood Jo and Lehmo’s anchor, Troy Ellis (pictured), will remain on-air at GOLD 104.3 Breakfast in the New Year.

What show could be coming? Sad to see them go but I can only guess better is on the way.

Matt and Jo should get back together on SCA. Try them in Sydney. It might just work.
