Canberra counts down to Skyfire 2024

Reporter

One day out from the big return of Skyfire, local media in Canberra is getting a special sneak preview today.

Tomorrow night – in an unofficial farewell to summer – Skyfire is expected to draw crowds in excess of 100,000 people to Lake Burley Griffin to watch the fireworks spectacular, set to a soundtrack broadcast on Hit104.7 and MIX 106.3.

After a five year pandemic-inflicted hiatus, Foti International Fireworks will again be choreographing the display.

As well as fireworks exploding overhead the skies will be alive beforehand with the Royal Australian Air Force E-7 flyover.

Hit 104.7 and MIX 106.3 will broadcast live from the main stage at Regatta Point.

Skyfire started out as smaller event back in 1989.

Over the next three decades, it grew to an afternoon and night time spectacular, viewed by at least one third of the ACT population.
