New SAFM Breakfast show for 2023

Reporter

Popular Adelaide radio personality Mark ‘Soda’ Soderstrom is making 107.1 SAFM Breakfast his new home from 2023, alongside award-winning journalist Rebecca ‘Bec’ Morse.

The brand-new Bec and Soda Breakfast show launches on 107.1 SAFM on 9 January 2023.

Hometown hero Soda brings a long media and sports pedigree to SAFM and has enjoyed great success as a radio presenter for over a decade.

A former champion footballer with 125 SANFL games under his belt, Soda played for Sturt, Glenelg and North Adelaide. His passion for entertaining audiences across Adelaide and giving back to the community has seen him work as a successful presenter on radio and television.

Soda is currently a presenter on 7News and The Car Club and is a commentator for Seven’s AFL and SANFL broadcasts.

Joining Soda for Breakfast is Bec Morse, who is already an established name on SAFM as the current co-host on the SAFM Breakfast show. An award winning news journalist and presenter, Morse knows what makes Adelaide tick.

SCA Chief Content Office Dave Cameron says “We’re delighted to expand our SCA talent family to welcome Adelaide’s golden boy and radio star, Soda, to SAFM. Together with SAFM favourite Bec, they will be a formidable powerhouse duo to entertain Adelaide at breakfast.”

“Bec and Soda are both much-loved Adelaide personalities, and now together for the first time, they’ll bring a fresh new show to listeners on the radio station South Australia fell in love with, SAFM. It’s gearing up to be an exciting year for SAFM and we’re so excited to have Bec and Soda together making radio magic.”

Soda says “I’ve really missed chatting to Adelaide at brekky time and cannot wait to get back in front of a microphone again at the mighty SAFM. Bec is sharp, intelligent and witty, so she will put me in my place in no time! I’m very grateful to have the chance to work at an organisation that takes great pride in creating a team first culture.”

Bec says “I’m excited to be welcoming Soda to the SAFM team! Soda is one of the best in the business and has a big heart when it comes to caring about South Australians. As long as he doesn’t bang on about all of his marathons, we are going to have a lot of fun together.”

Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann, who co-hosted the SAFM Breakfast show with Morse, will stay within the SCA family and in 2023 he returns to Melbourne to be a part of Triple M Melbourne programming.

Lehmo says “I love Adelaide and I love SAFM but I’m pumped to be back in Melbourne reunited with my true love, Triple M … Oh, and my wife and my son!”

Listen to Bec and Soda on 107.1 SAFM and the LiSTNR app from 9 January 2023.

Jodie vs Soda vs Mix will be the true grudge match of the 2023 radio wars.

So, does this mean SAFM will be skewing slightly older, like Mix94.5 in Perth.

Let’s hope SAFM has done their homework on Mr S.

The article makes no mention if the new breakfast show will be relayed to 96.1 SAFM limestone coast as well, but I’m assuming it will be.

Do Adelaide and Perth only have the same 4 people in radio available at any one time?

Sorry, I could not make it more than 5 minutes in the new format. Bec is great and is holding the show together. While Soder is a really nice guy, he is just ‘normal’ and his downplayed demeanour = boring which does not work for radio, esp breakfast. Afraid it will need another change before too long.
