Triple M renews NRL broadcast rights, appoints Sam Hargreaves as ‘Sports Guy’ for Brisbane

Former Assistant Editor

Triple M has renewed its agreement with the National Rugby League (NRL) and appointed Sam Hargreaves as their full time ‘Sports Guy’ for Triple M Brisbane.

The broadcaster’s two announcements today will only help to further cement sport in Triple M’s DNA alongside rock music.

Triple M Footy has been a part of the station for 11 years, and now a deal has been struck with the NRL to secure broadcast rights for another five years.

As the new season approaches, the broadcaster is promising the most complete coverage of the NRL to date, with coverage of all games from Thursday to Sunday and from Townsville and Wagga to Dubbo and Cairns.

The deal makes Triple M the largest commercial radio broadcaster of NRL in the country, with coverage available on-air, online and via the Triple M Footy app.

Triple M Brisbane has also revealed that local boy Sam Hargreaves will now be the station’s full time ‘Sports Guy’.

Hargreaves will be bringing listeners specialised local sports content, and he’s set to anchor the Triple M call team, be a regular guest on Triple M NRL call, as well as lead the Triple M’s Dead Set Legends with Margeaux Parker from 10am-12pm every Saturday.

He lives and breathes sport, say Triple M. “He’d probably be playing in a professional capacity somewhere if his first love wasn’t radio, and if he was actually any good at sports himself!

“He’s passionate and provocative and he knows the players, the coaches, the referees and the managers – he gets how sport happens and how sportspeople think.”

As part of the announcement, Triple M Brisbane have also revealed partnerships with the Queensland Reds, Brisbane Lions, Netball Queensland and Queensland Firebirds, The Heat and local rugby.
