The ABC has announced the launch of a new digital radio station and app for kids – ABC KIDS Listen.

ABC KIDS Listen is a dedicated digital radio station and application for pre-schoolers and their families, with children aged 0-5 the key target demographic.

It has been established to create a safe space for trusted, educational and entertaining audio programs featuring stories from ABC KIDS characters.

The new station and app is also aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia; the national early childhood curriculum for childhood educators.

Fourteen regular weekly audio programs will be available on ABC KIDS Listen from 6am every day, with shows themed to suit daily routine for children.

“Programs on ABC KIDS listen are carefully crafted to activate the brain and body, and align to key principles of the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia,” said ABC KIDS Listen manager Stephanie Carrick.

“Our child focused music programming creates a harmonious soundtrack that is soothing to the ears of parents too.”

“We trialled the radio station and app in homes and early education centres and were overwhelmed by the positive feedback from parents and educators who were genuinely surprised and delighted that ABC KIDS listen increased independent play time, helped children concentrate, and assisted children in winding down,” added Angela Stengel, head of content ideas lab overseeing ABC KIDS Listen.

ABC KIDS Listen is available now on DAB+ digital radio, to stream online and at the Apple Story and Google Play.
