Troy Ellis to anchor new Triple M Breakfast show with Marty Sheargold

Staff Writer

Former host of Mornings on Melbourne’s Nova 100, Troy Ellis, will join the new Triple M Breakfast show alongside Marty Sheargold.

Ellis will anchor The Marty Sheargold Show which kicks off on Triple M Melbourne at 6am on January 18.

Prior to his time with Nova, Ellis was the anchor of GOLD104.3’s #1 FM Breakfast show, Jo & Lehmo, with Jo Stanley and Anthony Lehmann. He also acted as anchor on Fox FM’s Matt & Jo Show with Stanley and Matt Tilley, which came to an end in 2013.

Sheargold told news.com.au Ellis is a “fantastic radio operator” who possesses “a great breakfast radio brain”.

Sheargold’s new gig was announced over the weekend, and he said he’s honoured to be returning to the station which kick started his radio career.

“To be given the opportunity to have my own show at a network I consider the backbone of FM radio is a true privilege. It is the job you hope for, but fear may never happen,” he said.

Ellis has previously told Radio Today that a good anchor needs to shine the light on the comedic talent and “let them fly, let them do their own thing”.

“I’ve always been of the mindset that it’s not about me, I’m there to facilitate, to ‘EmCee’ if you like, to provide the platform. It’s about keeping the show on track, on time, supporting the on-air team and being there to bounce off and contribute if and when needed. I think that’s important, to have the capability to contribute if required, but not be front and centre of the show. I think the role lends itself to setting in-studio energy, especially while the show is on air,” he said.
